I received an online quote from Eric through Facebook, but when we met in person, the price increased by a couple thousand dollars. After some discussion, my wife and I agreed to move forward, paid the $500 deposit, and signed the contract.
During Eric’s initial visit—when the contract was signed and deposit paid—I had my electrician friend there to review the entire job. When he asked Eric about pricing, Eric stated $250 per light and $300 per ceiling fan receptacle. My electrician friend pointed out that, as a licensed electrician, he charges around $180 each for a complete install, fully functional. Meanwhile, Eric was charging more just to run wiring to accessible locations. This clearly indicated that the electrical work was already included in the original price, which is also reflected in the contract.
Two days later, Eric returned with the builder, and that’s when things took a turn. We were told the price would increase another $2,700 because the builder would not attach the structure to the retaining wall and instead needed to add two additional footings.
After going back and forth for four hours with my wife, we reluctantly agreed to move forward with the updated contract.
However, when reviewing the new contract, we noticed that the two electrical outlets and ceiling fans were no longer included. Eric then said adding those back would cost an additional $1,066.
At this point, the price has been increased three separate times after a signed contract and deposit. That’s simply not acceptable. It’s also worth noting that Eric is not the manufacturer—he’s a salesperson—and has not been able to stand by his quoted pricing.
