Temecula United Methodist Church
Temecula United Methodist Church The History of Temecula United Methodist Church The Rev. David French served as a Missionary to India for a few years and then returned to serve churches in the southern California area including Corona UMC from 1979-1985. While on a sabbatical leave in 1986, David went to the Bishop and told him that he would like to start a church. The Bishop said “yes” and the rest is history. On July 1, 1987 Rev. French was sent to Temecula to start a church without buildings and without people! At the same time, land had been purchased by the denomination at the current site, a nice hill-top campus just north of Temecula High School below the water tower off Margarita Road. Rev. French immediately began knocking on doors and soon a flock of followers said, “Yes” and the first of five temporary worship facilities were rented around the city. The church continued to grow and in 1995 the first construction phase was completed to the joy of everyone! Rev. French retired in 1997 and the Rev. Dr. Randy Johnson was assigned to continue the church. In 1998, donations again were received and a major second phase of construction was completed that now included expanded worship space, a kitchen, and new offices. The church continued to grow and in 2002, once more the congregation raised funds to build a third phase of construction that included a dedicated space for youth ministry and other classrooms plus two new bathrooms! In July, 2014, Rev. Rick Malec was assigned as Pastor of Temecula United Methodist Church. Under his leadership we continued to upgrade our facilities and our audio-visual equipment. With ample facilities the congregation now totals about 300 members with around 175 in worship each Sunday. Rev. Malec retired from ministry in June of 2024. [read more]

The Cheesecake Factory
In the 1940s, Evelyn Overton found a recipe in her local Detroit newspaper that inspired her “Original” cheesecake. Everyone loved her recipe so much she decided to open a small bakery, but eventually gave it up to focus on raising her children, David and Renee. She moved her baking equipment to her basement kitchen and continued to sell cakes to some of the best restaurants in town. In 1972, Evelyn and her husband Oscar moved to Los Angeles to try one last time to have their own business. With the last of their savings, they opened The Cheesecake Factory Bakery and began selling Evelyn’s cheesecakes to restaurants throughout L.A. Their son David decided to open a restaurant in Beverly Hills in 1978 to showcase his mother’s cakes. Somehow, he just knew that a restaurant with an extensive dessert menu would be a hit. Destination Temecula Wine Tours and Experiences
Dave Wilson moved to Temecula in 1991 to serve as the opening Director of Sales and Marketing for a brand-new area hotel. At that time the entire Temecula Valley consisted of ~27,000 residents (compared to over 600,000 today), ONE stoplight and seven wineries. That same year, partnering with the then Executive Director of the Temecula Valley Chamber of Commerce, they created the valley’s first tourism committee, Dave chairing the initial two years. This committee ultimately segued to today’s non-profit “Visit Temecula Valley”. Two factors crystalized his awareness of the opportunities to come and were key in Dave’s decision to take the plunge and step away from the corporate world to follow his dream to be an entrepreneur. A tourism project he spearheaded as committee chair reinforced his awareness of the amazing mix (even at that very early stage) and breadth of area attributes attractive to visitors such as the valley’s distinct scenery and topography, weather, historical significance and area activities including golf, wine tasting and outdoor recreation. Working with a graphic artist, he conceptualized, composed all descriptive text, then sold the advertising to fund Temecula’s first two visitor’s guides. [read more]
