When choosing a tax professional, it is vitally important to check their credentials which reflect their level of qualification. In other words, are they a CPA, Enrolled Agent, or simply a registered tax return preparer? Registered tax return preparers lack the credentials to have unlimited rights in representing clients before the IRS. Every return is reviewed by a highly qualified CPA who is also an EA, MBA in accounting, and a CTRS (Certified Tax Resolution Specialist). What is a CPA? A CPA is Certified Public Accountant. CPA's go through the most rigorous testing and have a much wider scope than that of an Enrolled Agent. What is an Enrolled Agent? An Enrolled Agent is authorized at a federal level by the U.S. Department of Treasury to represent tax payers before the IRS. They specialize in taxes. What are they authorized to do? CPA's and Enrolled Agents are athorized to represent taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service and have unlimited rights to do so.
