T.J. Maxx

Our Company roots date back 47 years. In 1976, Bernard (Ben) Cammarata, General Merchandising Manager of Marshalls at the time, was recruited by discount retailer, Zayre Corp.,1 to develop and spearhead the launch of a new off-price chain selling family apparel and home fashions. Under Mr. Cammarata’s leadership, TJ Maxx was born, with its first stores opening in 1977. In the late 1980s, Zayre was restructured and spun off three of its brands — TJ Maxx, Hit or Miss, and Chadwick’s of Boston — which served as the initial retail banners of what would become The TJX Companies, Inc. TJX continued to grow steadily over the years, opening stores in new markets, countries, and continents, launching new chains, and acquiring other retailers, to bring its popular off-price model to an even wider network of customers who love our eclectic mix of quality, fashionable, brand name apparel and home fashions, all at amazing value. After nearly 40 years of service to the Company, Mr. Cammarata retired from his position as Chairman of the Board in June 2015 and remains with TJX in an advisory role as Founder and Executive Advisor. Vedanza Dance Company

Bio - Vera tinoco I started dancing at six years old studying Ballet, Jazz and Contemporary dance. My love for dancing started with dancing at home on my father’s feet. My life goal was to become a MD, but a turn of events guided me to Chemistry. After graduating in Chemistry and earning a PhD in Biochemistry, I travelled the world for scientific conference, while still doing dance performances throughout Europe and Russia. After working many hours in the lab, to blow some steam off I would spend nights at the dance studio. I left Italy in 2008 to move to San Diego to work at UCSD as Biochemist. Although I spend a lot of time studying and working, I also couldn’t let go of my passion for dancing. After integrating into my community, I fell in love with Latin music and dance. After doing experiments in the lab during the day, I spent the nights watching people dance. It took me months to get the courage to go out on the dance floor, but once I did, I was hooked. Throughout the years, I took many lessons and courses and ended up dancing with some of the great dancers of our time. In 2010, I started teaching some classes for fun to share my passion for Latin dance. It was incredible to see how many people shared my excitement and enjoyed my way to teach. After teaching classes for a few years, I had the thought, could I own my own dance company? During one of my classes, I had the luck to meet the man that I would eventually marry and have two wonderful children with. After spending 17 years in different labs all over the world doing research, I choose to have a family and raise my children. At that point I left my science career and with the incredible support of my husband, I made my dream of owning a dance company come true, taking my part-time hobby into a full-time business. That decision allowed me to the flexibility to live life on my own terms. In 2013, I moved my company to North County to build a community for local dancers, by having regular dance classes and dance social events that regularly bring around 150 people to each event. In 2018, I incorporated and currently in the process of finding my own location to add even more classes for the community. Questions, Concerns, Thoughts about Dance -- Contact Us. [read more]

Thrifty Ice Cream

BORN IN CALI Thrifty® ice cream was launched in 1940 at a small factory in West Hollywood. Angelenos soon flocked to the flagship Thrifty Drug Store in downtown Los Angeles to sample ice cream from the soda fountain. The high-quality, small-batch ice cream even snagged awards from the L.A. County Fair. By the 1970s, Thrifty ice cream had attained cult status along the West Coast, with significant celebrity shoutouts. AWARD WINNING TASTE More than 80 years after its launch, Thrifty ice cream's commitment to quality has never wavered. We still use the same recipe with fresh milk from local dairies. And when it comes to quality, no step is too much, like mixing in real fruit or freshly baked cookies. Even our Belgian chocolate is chipped from a locally mixed premium batch. To date, our ice cream has won over 1,600 gold medals in global dairy competitions. For the people, by the people With love comes longevity. Our plant in El Monte, CA, is full of familiar faces. Many of our employees have been churning out ice cream for three decades, marking each hand-crafted carton they scoop with their name. We also taste-test hundreds of new flavors every year. It’s a hard job, but somebody’s gotta do it! Our team can even make exclusive, custom flavors like Sriracha Swirl and Bacon & Cheddar. [read more]

Welk Resort Golf Course

The Fountain is one of two 18-hole golf courses at the Welk Resort San Diego. The other course, the Oaks, is an 18-hole, par-3 course that is great short-game practice for all skill levels. Although the Fountain is an executive-length course, it is as formidable as most full-length golf courses. Even low handicappers will be tested by the narrow layout, which covers a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. In addition to a slew of strategically placed bunkers and trees that demand accuracy, water hazards also come into play on a few holes. There are many risk-reward opportunities throughout the course where good strategy will reap many benefits. The golf course has some tricky holes but it is not overly punishing, making it more approachable for a wide range of skill levels. [read more]
