History WIN was established in 2005. Eric and Moon Feris, both Deaf, decided that the standards for quality and customer service in the interpreting industry needed to be raised. So they established a company to do just that. From this single principle came our Mission. Pursuit of this Mission has led us to where WIN is today. Today, WIN serves both the local community with top-notch in-person services and the entire country in providing Video Remote Interpreting. Why Choose WIN WIN is one of just four interpreting companies in the US that are actually owned and operated by Deaf people. There are about 400 other interpreting companies in the country, but all are owned/operated by hearing people. There actually is a difference! As life-long consumers of interpreting services, Moon and Eric know firsthand the importance of quality service. The day-to-day lives of Deaf people are directly tied to this important communication link to the rest of the world. Deaf people know, based on shared experiences, that WIN is here for their community. Unlike other companies, WIN solicits direct feedback from the Deaf community to ensure that preferences and specific needs are always taken into consideration. We know that there is no such thing as a "one size fits all" interpreter. From a business perspective, using a Deaf-owned agency for your interpreting needs is important. The vast majority of interpreting dollars are spent by business and other entities to comply with disability laws. If a business is going to spend the money, it makes sense to ensure it is spent well and that a return on the investment is realized. With WIN's focus on the Deaf community, companies can be assured that we are looking to ensure effective communication outcomes -- that is what you are investing in. This is one reason why all interpreters we send you will hold nationally-recognized credentials and be bound by a strict ethical code. In addition to that, all WIN interpreters are screened for professionalism, quality, and experience. Unlike our competition, WIN will never send you an inexpert "signer," or a "pre-certified interpreter," or a "mentee," all of which is code for "not a real interpreter." WIN guarantees you an interpreter who has earned the proper credentials. If you are going to be buying interpreting services, you might as well get the best you can. And given that our charges are generally in line with industry standards, you really have no reason to go elsewhere. This passion extends to WIN's interpreters, as well. 1914 Bakery
The Gruttadauria family has a long history serving desserts for over a century. The Gruttadauria family has a long history of making Italian desserts, spanning over 100 years, and 4 generations. Our family’s traditions and recipes have gone unchanged and held up with each generation. Originating from Caltanissetta, Sicily, where our founder, Salvatore Gruttadauria, was born. Leaving his homeland, he set out for America with a book full of recipes and a a plan to open up his own Italian bakery. Coming through Ellis Island, he planned his way to Chicago for the American dream but decided to stop in Rochester, NY to visit friends and decided to stay. A year later he opened our first bakery in 1914 right away he was well known in town for his amazing cannoli’s! A recipe we still use to this day! located in downtown Rochester, NY. It wasn’t long before Salvatore met the love of his life and married Josephine Mangione. Soon after they had children, Michaelina (Lee), Salvatore Jr. (Sam) and Helen. Being a tight-knit family, everyone baked and worked in the family business making sweets and selling our signature Italian Rum Cake a sponge cake layered with a citrus cream soaking in a sweet rum syrup! In the 1940’s, Salvatore Sr. ill from fighting in WWI, passed on the responsibility of the bakery to his son, Sam, and daughters. Salvatore Jr., known by all as Sam, ran the bakery for over 50 years with his wife Ann. They had four kids, Sam Jr., Charles, Steven, and Mark. All of Sam’s sons worked in the bakery, each specializing in different aspects of the bakery and becoming the staple place to get your Italian cookies with over 40 different varieties! throughout the years. In addition to the bakery, the Gruttadauria family hosted the La Fiera Italian festival one of the largest cultural festivals in NYS. In 2004, after 90 years in downtown Rochester, Stephen and Mark moved the bakery to the town of Greece, a suburb of Rochester, where Mark and his wife, Linda, and their children, Dominic and Michael worked with them. With the fourth generation came new ideas and new opportunities. Growing up in the family business Dominic and Michael learned the trade. In 2014 Michael went to Florence, Italy to study baking and pastry for a year. In 2018, after vacationing in California, they fell in love with the Temecula area and saw an opportunity to be able to move the business out west. In June of 2018, Michael moved out to Temecula, CA to open a separate location. In January of 2019, Mark, Linda and Dominic decided to close the bakery in Rochester and come out west to join Michael. Now located in Temecula, California, the current bakery is named Gruttadauria’s 1914 Bakery in honor of the year we were established and the 100+ years our family has been making bakes goods for your customers! In December 2017, we opened our doors here in the Temecula Valley. After having success at our sister restaurant, 1909 (a gastropub located in Old Town Temecula), we decided to take on a fun and new adventure in the breakfast world creating made-from-scratch dishes and offering local coffees & teas, craft beer and unique cocktails. Temecula Valley Cable Car Wine Tours
In May of 2006, Mike and Debbie, the owner-operators of Temecula Valley Cable Car Wine Tours had purchased a motorized 1914 San Francisco cable car. Debbie was reluctant of the purchase because of the shape it was in, but Mike could visualize a restored cable car running through Temecula and he couldn’t wait to restore the car to its former glory! It took over two years to refurbish and fully-restore the cable car to its original conditions, but with a lot of patience, sandpaper, paint, and mechanical parts, the cable car was restored and set off to cruise through the beautiful Temecula wine country. Our San Francisco cable car is the only historical moving monument left in the United States, and even though the cable car is motorized, passengers will experience the feel and essence of San Francisco as they experience Temecula Valley wine country!
