Sprouts Farmers Market

Our History Some say natural is the new normal – but at Sprouts, there’s nothing new about natural foods! Back in 2002, we opened our first store in an effort to make natural foods accessible to everyone. Up until then, grocers offering fresh, organic choices were either too expensive to shop or too hard to find. We wanted to be different! No more weaving through a maze of narrow aisles without anyone offering to help. No more ingredient lists featuring 40 unpronounceable chemicals. And most of all, no more spending an entire paycheck for food from the honest effort of a farmer – not a factory. To us, being different is good! People thought we were crazy when we wouldn’t sell the country’s top-selling sodas, snacks and candy. But we believed that eating clean and living healthy was more than just a trend. At Sprouts, it’s our passion. And we knew that by focusing on farm-fresh produce and other healthy, affordable items, we could create a grocery experience where you didn’t have to be wealthy to eat healthy! So think of Sprouts as all of the very best parts of a real farmers market under one roof, open every day of the week. With our commitment to value in every department, and knowledgeable and friendly team members, we’re confident that once you shop Sprouts you’ll think different is good too. Today we have grown to more than 380 stores with approximately 31,000 team members. It’s these individuals who are the key to our success. They’re the ones who put good at the heart of everything we do at Sprouts … every day, in every community, with every guest. [read more]

1967 - Waremart Foods Back in 1967, two Boise area businessmen, Ralph Ward and Bud Williams - founded a discount store in Boise, Idaho under the name of Waremart. It was a no-frills, warehouse-style grocery store focusing on low prices. The 70s As time passed, Mr. Ward purchased Mr. Williams' stake in the company and over time, Waremart grew into a small chain of grocery stores, mainly based in the Pacific Northwest. In the 1970s, WAREMART EVOLVED INTO A SUPERMARKET that became regionally famous for low prices, flat-carts and grease pencils that customers had to use to write the price on each item (two of which are gone now, but not the low prices). The Purchase of 1985 In the 1980's after the passing of Waremart's founder, there was uncertainty throughout the company and its future unknown. The employees loved the company, they loved their customers and did not want to see their stores go away. But what could they do? They were not rich investors or wealthy business owners. They were every day, hard working people that loved their place of work and loved the communities they called home. For the employees of Waremart, there was only one option - join together and take ownership of their stores. In 1985 under the guidance of then company president Bill Long, the hard working men and women of Waremart established WinCo Foods' Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), and bought a controlling stake in the company from the Ward family. And so, with 17 stores owned and cared for by these hard working individuals, an employee-owned company was born. 1998 - Woodburn DC In 1998, WinCo Foods opened a new 900,000 sq ft grocery and perishable distribution center in Woodburn, Oregon. At that point, it serviced all of the stores the company owned. By having its own distribution center, WinCo Foods was able to better manage costs and product prices, along with creating hundreds of jobs in Woodburn, OR. This distribution center was a huge step in the growth that would soon take place. WINCO TRIVIA: 1 The Woodburn DC has since experienced expansion, currently sitting at over 1,000,000 sq ft. The Woodburn DC currently services WinCo stores in Oregon and Western Washington state with daily deliveries. 2 The Woodburn, DC was preceded by a warehouse in Salem, OR. 1999 - Name Change In 1999, it was time for a change and a new name. As an employee-owned company, it made sense that the company's new name came from its employees. After a company-wide contest and vote, the new name was decided - WinCo Foods. Under its new name, WinCo Foods would continue on its path to success. WINCO TRIVIA: 1 WinCo Foods still operates three employee-owned stores under the Waremart name; one in Independence, Oregon, the second one in Ontario, Oregon and third in Keizer, Oregon. 2 Prior to the name change, several stores operated under the Cub Foods® name, as part of a franchise agreement. 3 The name WinCo is a combination of the words Winning and Company Read more about our name change The 2000s - Decade of Expansion WinCo Foods would go on to open three more distribution centers and one non-food warehouse that would allow the company to focus on expansion. In 2004 the opening of a DC in Modesto, CA allowed for expansion that focused on California. in 2009, the opening of a new DC in Boise, ID allowed WinCo Foods to expand into Utah. This success would be carried over into the next decade. In 2014 WinCo Foods was able to better serve stores located in Southern California, as well as focus on its Arizona and Las Vegas expansion, by opening a distribution center located in Phoenix, AZ. WINCO TRIVIA: 1 As of the time of its completion in 2009, WinCo's Distribution Center in Boise, ID was the largest free-standing building in Idaho. 2 Do you love knowing that WinCo Foods rarely has empty shelves or is out of something? Our distribution centers and trucking fleet are to thank, making deliveries to every store at least once a day. 3 Flying in to Boise, ID? Look down as your plane makes its descent, you might see the WinCo Foods logo on top of its distribution center, large enough to fit several cars in it. 2014 - The Lone Star State By the time 2014 rolled around, WinCo Foods had already expanded into a new state twice since the purchase of 1985 (Utah in 2009 and Arizona in 2012). 2014 would mark another first, as WinCo Foods began to lay its foundation in Texas, around the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. How would Texas welcome an employee-owned store? Would customers accept bagging their own purchase, knowing that doing so helped keep prices low? Would buying from bulk bins and being able to purchase as little or as much as one needed be accepted? These and other questions were answered with a resounding positive reception, as WinCo Foods opened four new employee-owned stores in Texas, in one single year. The answer was simple, Texas loves WinCo Foods and WinCo Foods loves Texas. 2016 – The New Texas DC and OK Expansion With the beginning of 2016, WinCo Foods prepared a major move in the Texas market, as well as for its overall growth and sustainability plan by opening a state-of-the-art, 800,000 square foot distribution center in Denton, TX – the single largest economic development in the history of Denton. The move allowed WinCo Foods to fully supply all of its current and upcoming Texas stores, but also to supply all future expansion in the region. This includes the late-May 2017 opening of the company’s first store in the state of Oklahoma, in the city of Moore. This careful expansion of both the company and its distribution operations has so far resulted in superb results. The response to WinCo Foods in the Moore, OK area has led to huge crowds in the aisles and thousands of satisfied customers thrilled to get to experience The Supermarket Low Price 2017 - Certified Employee-Owned Certified Employee-OwnedAs one of the largest ESOP companies in the nation, WinCo Foods believes wholeheartedly in the benefits of employee ownership. In August of 2017, WinCo Foods continued to support the values of employee ownership, by becoming a founding member of Certified Employee-Owned, an alliance of companies dedicated to building a voice for employee ownership. Certified Employee-Owned works to unite employee-owned companies with a common brand that will raise national awareness of employee ownership and provide a source of differentiation for its members. 2019 – WinCo Enters Montana In early March of 2019, WinCo Foods made the move into Montana, opening stores concurrently in Billings and Helena – our 125th and 126th stores, respectively –bringing our signature low prices and wide open stores to the area. The impact was immediate as shoppers poured into both locations from all over the state to take advantage of the everyday bargains. WinCo is currently planning its further expansion into the state. An Idea to Meet a Need Since 1945, U-Haul has been serving do-it-yourself movers and their households. Like many other successful ventures, the concept for U-Haul was generated out of need. After World War II, widespread need existed for do-it-yourself moving equipment that would be available on a one-way, nationwide basis. U-Haul co-founders L.S. "Sam" Shoen and his wife, Anna Mary Carty Shoen, recognized that need and acted upon it. Starbucks

Our Heritage Our story begins in 1971 along the cobblestone streets of Seattle’s historic Pike Place Market. It was here where Starbucks opened its first store, offering fresh-roasted coffee beans, tea and spices from around the world for our customers to take home. Our name was inspired by the classic tale, “Moby-Dick,” evoking the seafaring tradition of the early coffee traders. Ten years later, a young New Yorker named Howard Schultz would walk through these doors and become captivated with Starbucks coffee from his first sip. After joining the company in 1982, a different cobblestone road would lead him to another discovery. It was on a trip to Milan in 1983 that Howard first experienced Italy’s coffeehouses, and he returned to Seattle inspired to bring the warmth and artistry of its coffee culture to Starbucks. By 1987, we swapped our brown aprons for green ones and embarked on our next chapter as a coffeehouse. Starbucks would soon expand to Chicago and Vancouver, Canada and then on to California, Washington, D.C. and New York. By 1996, we would cross the Pacific to open our first store in Japan, followed by Europe in 1998 and China in 1999. Over the next two decades, we would grow to welcome millions of customers each week and become a part of the fabric of tens of thousands of neighborhoods all around the world. In everything we do, we are always dedicated to Our Mission: With every cup, with every conversation, with every community - we nurture the limitless possibilities of human connection. [read more]

Temecula Ghosts

Welcome To Temecula Terrors Stories of Native American massacres and cattle baron empires reverberate across Old Town Temecula in a manner unchanged for decades, just the way they like it. Relive the frontier town’s pioneering otherworldly past on a ghost tour with Temecula terrors. Bridge To The Otherworldly Side Beware of the waters in Temecula, for if you cross into Old Town Temecula via the Main Street Temecula Bridge, you may not be alone. Beneath the modern bridge awaits a legend deep within California’s Spanish roots. Children have cowered for years over stories of her terrible wail and what happens to those foolish enough to tempt her wrath. Feel the hint of dark nostalgia as Temecula Terrors recants the tale of La Llorona and takes you to the very spot where her angry spirit roams in search of her next victims. Romantically intertwined with a man who rejected her love, La Llorona searches the streams and ravines of Temecula, inflicting the same pain in the hearts of mothers and their children. Listen closely with Temecula Terrors; you may hear her gut-wrenching scream strong enough to cast doubt in even the most ardent skeptic. Spanish legends and cowboy campfire ghost stories are everywhere in “The Palace Of The Sun.” But don’t stray too far, as you may become one of them. What Will I See? Visit Temecula’s Most Haunted Locations, Including: Palomar Inn Hotel – Guests are ushered into the spirit world by a Native American totem pole. This 1927 hotel, where mystical energies fill empty rooms and shock living guests, is home to a mysterious bird entity and many more native stories. Main Street Temecula Bridge – The vicious spirit of La Llorona lives underneath this modern addition to Old Town Temecula. This tale stretches across the Latin world, living in the scarred minds of unsuspecting children wandering around late at night. The Welty Building – Once a hotel that attracted Hollywood’s finest, the Welty Inn and Saloon was the only bar in an otherwise dry Riverside County for decades. The ghosts of this violent watering hole continue to wrestle over pride and ego from the great beyond. Hotel of Horror Come for Temecula’s hot air balloon rides and wine tastings, and stay for a ghost tour with Temecula Terrors, where we’ll take you to one of the most haunted hotels in Riverside County. Venture to The Palomar Inn, where forbidden liquor once sat alongside daily mail, both kept safe and dry for the rowdy cowboy community. Witness the majestic power of the thunderbird totem above the entrance as you learn about the hotel’s interesting mystical powers. Strange “bird-like” entities usher guests into a world ravaged by the destruction of the city’s past. Learn of the restless spirits that heighten the unexplained activity at the Palomar, sending chills down the spines of guests with no relenting in sight. An Old Town Temecula ghost tour with Temecula Terrors takes you into the shadows, where the high heat of the desert has no say in the icy temperatures around you—a place where decrepit hands from tortured apparitions reach out in agony. Spirits of Bullet-Riddled Saloons Stand outside what was once the only saloon serving liquor in a dry and dangerous county. Spirits of the Ramona Inn and Saloon still remember the days of visiting Hollywood stars and boxing champions visiting the bygone bar. Their spectral cheers pulsate against the bullet-ridden walls of the legendary Western watering hole. Hear the ghost story of the blazing cigar, still lit from over a hundred years ago, that casts an eerie glow upon the backside of a branded cowboy’s pride. The resulting scuffle that ended with the first death in Riverside law enforcement history repeats nightly at The Welty Building. Gunshots that ring out late into the nooks and crannies of the building act as brutal reminders of the most gruesome murder in the old cattle town. Find out why the man responsible didn’t hang, instead enduring a fate far worse. Haunted Temecula holds its secrets behind the brick buildings and bullet-riddled walls of Wild West lore. Break down these walls on a ghost tour with Temecula Ghosts. Why is Temecula so Haunted? Massacres of Horrible Magnitudes Gather around The Merc in Old Town Temecula, home to performances from both sides of this mortal coil. Native spirits from the days of California’s tainted foundation walk the community theatre with pleading steps, searching for justice. Discover the terrible truth behind the Temecula Massacre Site and the dozens who lost their lives in a war between nations. Creation comes at a price, and in the canyons of Temecula, the victims of California’s birth walk sorrowfully in the afterlife. Their souls are cursed and pitted against each other for the pleasure of the invading, greedy men surrounding them. Specters of Natives now run through department stores and playhouse theaters, disappearing through the stage lights and displays as if they were part of the act. Investigations are often led into these portals, and the results are shocking. The massacre has yet to find peace, wailing back from the afterlife in a furious rage. Unveil these horrors and more with Temecula Terrors. The Wild Wicked West Listen for the phantom spurs of hardened saddle tramps and outlaws at 1909 Temecula, once The Long Branch Saloon and the roughest place in town to get a drink. A moniker attested to clearly by the bullet holes in the ceiling where it once stood and the ghosts that now walk the hundred-year-old bar. Learn about the epicenter of haunted Temecula, Vail Ranch, where the dead are known to talk to the living and claim acres of the cursed land. Whispers of stale yesterdays tell the sordid stories of Temecula’s oldest adobe. The city’s Wild West bravado led many souls six feet under and its ranches to the list of California’s most haunted places. Temecula Terrors unearths the corpses of Western lore and shines a light into the dark barns littering Temecula’s once barren landscape. Ride forward into the night on a ghost tour of Old Town Temecula and see this rough-and-tumble world for yourself. What’s so Special About the Temecula Ghosts Tour? See The Sour Side Of Wine Country A foiled bank robbery took the breath of a little girl, and she now walks alongside her murderer, who died by his own gun, in perpetual torment. Some say their spirits are locked in a never-ending loop in an old bank building. Behold the delicious and distinct aroma of the Bank of Mexican Food, where the weeping of innocent lives, brought to a cruel end, reawaken our other senses. Train your sixth sense on a ghost tour with Temecula Terrors and get a taste of the afterlife that pairs nicely with the wine of Temecula Valley. A Once-in-a-Lifetime Experience That Will Leave You Wanting More Temecula’s famous hot air balloons see a vast topography of haunted locations floating over the heads of beleaguered spirits. Dilapidated buildings hidden between wineries and mountains hold secrets waiting to be explored. Hear about the blazing fire at the Kea Grain Mill that left the once prosperous storage structure a shattered skeleton of itself. Discover tales of a ghastly little girl in blue that greets many urban explorers who have spotted the old building from high above the clouds. Prepare for a night of bone-chilling tales and intriguing experiences you’ll never forget.
