Our cocktail menu leans heavily towards time appropriate spirits – Rye and Bourbon Whiskey along with Gin, but we offer the full range of familiar spirits. We pride ourselves on custom cocktail craftsmanship and will make a drink tailored to your preference based on a few questions and your direction. WALK INS ONLY Seating for the bar is by walk in only based upon availability. We kindly ask that parties are limited to 8 per group and that you keep your visit to two hours or less so we can make welcome other guests in our limited space. Sorry folks, but there were no phones in the 1800s and there ain't any now in our bar to accept requests or inquires regarding available seating. Please check in person with the host or lead bartender on duty for wait times or to put your name on the wait list. Dress Code Time period appropriate clothing or formal wear is not required but encouraged. Please leave your revolvers, carbines and blades at the door. This is a civilized saloon. Behavior While the Western frontier was defined by roughnecks, ruffians and general lawlessness, guests in Thompson and Twain are expected to maintain decorum and etiquette. I had hardly begun my endeavor in the attic when a single ray of sunlight drew my attention to a small box peeking out from behind a wicker trunk.I slowly lifted the top off the box and delicately moved aside the tissue paper to reveal a pair of baby shoes. The two most beautiful little shoes, sleepily nestled together in the paper. Beneath the shoes laid a yellowed photograph of a small boy in a buttoned coat with a caption penned across the back in perfect script: “1942… Pierre, 2 years old”. These were my dad’s baby shoes. The Board Source
Board Source Owner/Founder: Born and raised in the small “funky” beach town, Leucadia CA in North San Diego County. Growing up, Jon surfed daily, skated, rode BMX, and even raced motocross professionally. A dad raising two kids, Jon kept his love for surfing even when times were tough. In 2014-ish Jon was broke and at a crossroads as he phased out of his real estate career. He started buying used surfboards, patching them up, and reselling them after a few sessions. It was fun selling surfboards to friends and neighbors while getting to try out a variety of different models and designs. Investing what little profit he made into buying more and more surfboards, Jon was now selling 100 boards out of his parent’s garage in Leucadia. The Board Source was born. The business rapidly outgrew the garage much to the chagrin of the neighbors. Not interested in the traditional surf shop model, Jon chose the current warehouse location in Carlsbad, CA. 800 square feet felt like plenty of space. It was not… thousands of surfboards later, the Board Source now occupies 5,000 square feet with an ever-rotating stock of 600+ new and used surfboards. Present day, Jon dawn patrols every morning with his now adult son and daughter and surfs and travels with his surfer wife, Kira. No longer a one-man show, Jon has recruited some of the best in the surfboard business to handle the day-to-day operations.
