In 1996 to 1997, he served as President of the Association. In 1997 to 1998, John P. O’Connell chaired a Political Action Committee to oppose and defeat Federal Legislation designed to impose an industry surcharge on all cut flower products imported and sold in the United States. Besides the practice of Administrative law relevant to John P. O’Connell’s business and development projects, John P. O’Connell has represented other investment and business groups through the administrative law process of TUPS, CUPS, administration hearings and appeals. From 1999-2005, John P. O’Connell acted as in-house counsel and principal in various commercial projects including real estate development and construction in Orange County, Riverside County, Kern County, San Diego County and Mexico. Other business projects during this period include development of an Automotive Center and Retail Operations throughout Southern California. In 2005, John P. O’Connell went back into private law practice with the opening of offices in South Orange County and Temecula. John P. Hi, I'm Pia. I started Artisan's Palate in June 2013. When we first opened, I curated a variety of artisan products primarily from local talent. What was most important to me at the time was that the items I chose had to taste good. That was easy for me to decide since I was a self-professed foodie, and felt I was an experienced judge based on my world travels, and my penchant for entertaining. Well, I was wrong! I was choosing a lot of product that had one thing in common; SUGAR! And, a lot of it, from chocolate to cupcakes, and spreads to sauces. Then I realized these items had other things in common, like soy and wheat. My mind was still thinking that soy and wheat were healthy alternatives, and as long as it's cane sugar and not high fructose corn syrup, then it's okay. I was completely indoctrinated in the industrial food system and didn't even know it! As I continued to peddle over-priced, sugar fueled items, I started to listen to my customers and most importantly learn. I learned the most important lesson to date, HAVE AN OPEN MIND. I could have easily continued with what I was doing but I didn't. I changed my way of eating and that of my husband's progressively ever since. Artisan's Palate, saved my life! Since then, we've experienced tremendous growth and we are proud to say that we are influencing and helping others every single day. There is no greater feeling than knowing that my customers and some of my family members are open to change and they're making a real difference on their health journey. I still curate, I just don't curate items that have junk industrial ingredients. The store represents my journey, so I'm always bringing in new items. What hasn't changed is that the items still have to taste great, if they don't, then they don't get put on the shelf. Come and visit us, and start your health journey. Bio - Vera tinoco I started dancing at six years old studying Ballet, Jazz and Contemporary dance. My love for dancing started with dancing at home on my father’s feet. My life goal was to become a MD, but a turn of events guided me to Chemistry. After graduating in Chemistry and earning a PhD in Biochemistry, I travelled the world for scientific conference, while still doing dance performances throughout Europe and Russia. After working many hours in the lab, to blow some steam off I would spend nights at the dance studio. I left Italy in 2008 to move to San Diego to work at UCSD as Biochemist. Although I spend a lot of time studying and working, I also couldn’t let go of my passion for dancing. After integrating into my community, I fell in love with Latin music and dance. After doing experiments in the lab during the day, I spent the nights watching people dance. It took me months to get the courage to go out on the dance floor, but once I did, I was hooked. Throughout the years, I took many lessons and courses and ended up dancing with some of the great dancers of our time. In 2010, I started teaching some classes for fun to share my passion for Latin dance. It was incredible to see how many people shared my excitement and enjoyed my way to teach. After teaching classes for a few years, I had the thought, could I own my own dance company? During one of my classes, I had the luck to meet the man that I would eventually marry and have two wonderful children with. After spending 17 years in different labs all over the world doing research, I choose to have a family and raise my children. At that point I left my science career and with the incredible support of my husband, I made my dream of owning a dance company come true, taking my part-time hobby into a full-time business. That decision allowed me to the flexibility to live life on my own terms. In 2013, I moved my company to North County to build a community for local dancers, by having regular dance classes and dance social events that regularly bring around 150 people to each event.
