Temecula Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars
Who We Are The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States is a nonprofit veterans service organization comprised of eligible veterans and military service members from the active, guard and reserve forces. We trace our roots back to 1899 when veterans of the Spanish-American War (1898) and the Philippine Insurrection (1899-1902) founded local organizations to secure rights and benefits for their service. Many arrived home wounded or sick. There was no medical care or veterans’ pension for them, and they were left to care for themselves. In their misery, some of these veterans banded together and formed organizations that would eventually band together and become known as the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. After chapters were formed in Ohio, Colorado and Pennsylvania, the movement quickly gained momentum. Today, membership stands at nearly 1.7 million members of the VFW and its Auxiliary. Our voice was instrumental in establishing the Veterans Administration, development of the national cemetery system, in the fight for compensation for Vietnam vets exposed to Agent Orange and for veterans diagnosed with Gulf War Syndrome. In 2008, we won a long-fought victory with the passing of a GI Bill for the 21st Century, giving expanded educational benefits to America’s active duty service members, and members of the guard and reserves, fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. We were the driving force behind the Veterans Access and Accountability Act of 2014, and continually fight for improved VA medical centers services for women veterans. Besides helping fund the creation of the Vietnam, Korean War, World War II and Women in Military Service memorials, in 2005 the VFW became the first veterans’ organization to contribute to building the new Disabled Veterans for Life Memorial, which opened in November 2010. And in 2015, we became the first supporter of the National Desert Storm War Memorial which is planned for construction at our nation’s capital. We have many programs and services that work to support veterans, service members and their families, as well as communities worldwide. No One Does More For Veterans. Dr. Wes Youngberg is a practicing clinical nutritionist and lifestyle medicine specialist in Temecula, CA. He was trained at Loma Linda University where he earned a doctorate in clinical preventive care and a master’s degree in nutrition. He is on the clinical faculty of Loma Linda University and serves as assistant clinical professor for both the Department of Preventive Medicine at the School of Medicine and the Department of Health Promotion at the School of Public Health. Dr. Youngberg is a board Certified Nutrition Specialist, and is a founding director and fellow of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. Dr. Youngberg is the lead presenter in the Diabetes Undone Program – an interactive, video based series designed to support the doctor and the patient in achieving diabetes reversal. He has trained with Dr. Dale Bredesen (the director of the Center for Alzheimer’s Disease Research at UCLA) and is certified in the Bredesen Protocol – a comprehensive, lifestyle medicine based, assessment and intervention model, documented to reverse up to 88% of MCI and early Alzheimer’s. Currently, Dr. Youngberg is conducting 4-Day Bredesen Protocol Intensives at resorts in San Diego and Laguna Beach. Prior to opening his lifestyle and nutritional medicine clinic in Temecula, Dr. Youngberg spent 14 years on the island of Guam, researching the diabetes epidemic on the Micronesian islands of the Western Pacific region and directing the Wellness Center at the Guam Seventh-day Adventist Clinic. He traveled throughout the islands, providing public health education, screenings, and professional training for diabetes prevention and care. Dr. Youngberg was honored twice with the Heroes of the Pacific award by the Guam chapter of the American Diabetes Association. In 2007, he was awarded the Ancient Order of the Chamorri—the highest honor given by the governor of Guam for extraordinary contributions to the island community. Returning to California in 2008, he spent three years as medical nutritionist and Director of the Lifestyle Medicine Clinic and Wellness Center for Rancho Family Medical Group in Temecula. He has lectured to medical conferences throughout Europe, Asia and the Americas. His passion is the full integration of physical and emotional risk factors in the assessment and intervention of health concerns. Dr. Youngberg has done post doctoral studies with the Institute for Functional Medicine and the Australasian College of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine. He is the co-host of the Hope Channel’s “Naturally Gourmet” with Karen Houghton, and has produced various DVD video series, including: “Transforming Sickness into Health” and “Controlling Cravings with Contentment”. He has published several books including, The Path to Health & Healing, Goodbye Diabetes – preventing and reversing diabetes the natural way, and most recently, Hello Healthy. Dr. Youngberg has over 30 years of clinical nutrition and lifestyle medicine experience using integrative therapies for diabetes control, depression recovery, cardiovascular disease reversal, optimizing digestive health and effective management of many chronic health conditions. Cantor's Driving School - Serving All Of San Diego County
Allan Cantor opened the first Cantor’s Driving School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1976. This father of four was a History Teacher and Disciplinarian at Overbrook High School in West Philadelphia. He began teaching students how to drive part-time and on the weekends. Soon, he had taught nearly every teen in the area how to drive. Allan was the best driving instructor around. He was known for his jovial personality and relatability with his students. A stop off to grab a famous Philadelphia cheesesteak during a lesson was not out of the question – and something his students loved about him. Of course it was the 1970s and times were different then, but Cantor’s Driving School has always been about Family, Community, and Safety. As years went by, Cantor’s Driving School grew into the neighboring Philadelphia suburbs. And as his children grew, his youngest son Frank joined the family business. Learning the ins-and-outs of being a great driving instructor from his father, Frank was able to expand Cantor’s Driving School into 5 states – Pennsylvania, Florida, Nevada, Arizona, and California. Today, Frank Cantor owns and operates Cantor’s Driving School with his wife, Cheri, continuing the tradition of a family-owned and operated business. Temecula United Methodist Church
Temecula United Methodist Church The History of Temecula United Methodist Church The Rev. David French served as a Missionary to India for a few years and then returned to serve churches in the southern California area including Corona UMC from 1979-1985. While on a sabbatical leave in 1986, David went to the Bishop and told him that he would like to start a church. The Bishop said “yes” and the rest is history. On July 1, 1987 Rev. French was sent to Temecula to start a church without buildings and without people! At the same time, land had been purchased by the denomination at the current site, a nice hill-top campus just north of Temecula High School below the water tower off Margarita Road. Rev. French immediately began knocking on doors and soon a flock of followers said, “Yes” and the first of five temporary worship facilities were rented around the city. The church continued to grow and in 1995 the first construction phase was completed to the joy of everyone! Rev. French retired in 1997 and the Rev. Dr. Randy Johnson was assigned to continue the church. In 1998, donations again were received and a major second phase of construction was completed that now included expanded worship space, a kitchen, and new offices. The church continued to grow and in 2002, once more the congregation raised funds to build a third phase of construction that included a dedicated space for youth ministry and other classrooms plus two new bathrooms! In July, 2014, Rev. Rick Malec was assigned as Pastor of Temecula United Methodist Church. Under his leadership we continued to upgrade our facilities and our audio-visual equipment. With ample facilities the congregation now totals about 300 members with around 175 in worship each Sunday. Rev. Malec retired from ministry in June of 2024. [read more]
