Temecula United Methodist Church The History of Temecula United Methodist Church The Rev. David French served as a Missionary to India for a few years and then returned to serve churches in the southern California area including Corona UMC from 1979-1985. While on a sabbatical leave in 1986, David went to the Bishop and told him that he would like to start a church. The Bishop said “yes” and the rest is history. On July 1, 1987 Rev. French was sent to Temecula to start a church without buildings and without people! At the same time, land had been purchased by the denomination at the current site, a nice hill-top campus just north of Temecula High School below the water tower off Margarita Road. Rev. French immediately began knocking on doors and soon a flock of followers said, “Yes” and the first of five temporary worship facilities were rented around the city. The church continued to grow and in 1995 the first construction phase was completed to the joy of everyone! Rev. French retired in 1997 and the Rev. Dr. Randy Johnson was assigned to continue the church. In 1998, donations again were received and a major second phase of construction was completed that now included expanded worship space, a kitchen, and new offices. The church continued to grow and in 2002, once more the congregation raised funds to build a third phase of construction that included a dedicated space for youth ministry and other classrooms plus two new bathrooms! In July, 2014, Rev. Rick Malec was assigned as Pastor of Temecula United Methodist Church. Under his leadership we continued to upgrade our facilities and our audio-visual equipment. With ample facilities the congregation now totals about 300 members with around 175 in worship each Sunday. Rev. Malec retired from ministry in June of 2024. [read more]

Years before the Stehly Family began farming in Valley Center, the roots of Stehly Farms stretch back to the agriculture days of Orange County, CA. Nicholas J Stehly founded the original farm in the 1920′s, and was later acquired by Jerome Stehly Sr. where he continued farming. As the population in Orange County grew, farm land got thinner and the Stehly Family felt the pressure and knew it was time to get back to open land. In 1964, Jerome Sr. moved the farm to where it sits now in Valley Center, CA. In the late 1970’s, Jerome Sr. decided to shift his focus from inside the chicken barn to the groves that line the 278 acre property. The Vista Farmers Market features over 50 farmers selling what they grow; local, certified, and organic growers with in-season produce. Actual, real farmers with an abundance of avocados, persimmons, apples, oranges, strawberries, peaches, and other fruits and vegetables. Farmers also sell dates, eggs, nuts, juices, honey, cheeses, sausages, plants, wool, flowers, and grass-fed meats. In addition, there are more than 40 foodmakers — prepared food artisans that sell fresh bread and other baked goods such as pies, cupcakes, and cookies, as well as sauces, salsas, dips, and pickles. All are available fresh each week. There are 14 countries’ foods represented in the hot food vendors serving breakfast and lunch. Over a dozen makers and crafters attend each week with their soap, pottery, clothing, hats, jewelry, gifts, dog treats, and more. Each week features a variety of musicians as well as several services such as knife and tool sharpening, and massage. The market has over 600 free parking spaces. The Vista Farmers Market is located at the San Diego County Courthouse, 345 South Melrose Drive, Vista, CA 92083, just south of Highway 78. The market is open every month, every week, every Saturday – regardless of the weather – from 8:00 am until 12:00 noon. We’ve been operating since 1981 and are first farmers market in the county and one of the oldest markets in the state. The Vista Farmers Market consists of FIVE marketplaces. There is the Food Specialties Marketplace which consists of foodmakers and farmers who produce what they sell . . . whether bread, baked goods, pesto, honey, almonds, or cheese. There is the Certified Farmers Market which is only farmers who sell what they grow and who benefit from being in a Certified Farmers Market through exemptions for labeling, packaging, or sizing requirements.
