Meet Renee Renee Moreno, Owner Renee’s bookkeeping journey began in a successful coffee shop, Pannikin La Jolla, back in 2007. As a small business owner, the day-to-day business operations of maintaining her success were her main focus and responsibility. She sold the business in 2017 and returned to school where she focused on Mathematics and Accounting. The story of Calisson began on a warm day of spring cleaning at my childhood home in the North of France two decades ago. I had hardly begun my endeavor in the attic when a single ray of sunlight drew my attention to a small box peeking out from behind a wicker trunk.I slowly lifted the top off the box and delicately moved aside the tissue paper to reveal a pair of baby shoes. The two most beautiful little shoes, sleepily nestled together in the paper. Beneath the shoes laid a yellowed photograph of a small boy in a buttoned coat with a caption penned across the back in perfect script: “1942… Pierre, 2 years old”. These were my dad’s baby shoes. Chad Braun, owner and founder of XPR started business in 2008 just 3 short years after moving from his hometown Calgary, Alberta, Canada. As far as he can remember, Chad had a passion for bikes. Although he worked on his own cars and did all the work on them, his true passion was bikes. Chad got his start hands on from a reluctant shop owner in Calgary specializing in Ducati service & performance. With no prior work experience on bikes other than maintaining his own, the owner was taking a chance on him. Fast forward 6 years and Chad custom built his own Ducati from nuts and bolts, with the exception of spraying the paint he did it all. Had the shop owner of the Ducati shop not given him the chance on working on these prestigious bikes, Chad may never had been given the opportunity elsewhere. During his teen years, Chad raced most of the local and provincial races throughout Canada. Placing in the top 3, Chad aspired to be an established National Rider. While most parents were taking their kid’s bikes to bike shops, Chad, a bike enthusiast was hands on and self-taught himself all the service on his bikes. He knew at a very young age that owning his own shop was always what he wanted. He would work in his parent’s garage in Canada helping out friends. Now operating in Southern California -the hub of MX/SX racing, Chad is a long way from general service on his own and friend’s bikes out of his parent’s garage. To now working with professional race teams and riders locally and internationally, Chad never forgets where he started. Although he never had the chance to fulfill his National Championship goal, Chad was able to take his racing experience and from that give back to his customers and race teams a competitive edge to those not being supported by factory teams as well as for the bike enthusiast. Surf Ride Boardshop
Surf Ride was founded in 1974 by twin brothers Bill and Richard Bernard with the original and flagship location being in Oceanside on Coast Hwy. Bill and Richard started out in a little 800 sqf adobe building on what was then called "Hill Street" in Oceanside CA. Originally a Hobie Cat dealership with a focus on the core sports of the ocean. As sailing became less popular and every time it rained in Oceanside the adobe building would leak water through the walls and the streets would flood the front door, the brothers decided it was time to build a new building. They knew that they needed one that could fulfill the dreams they had of becoming Californias premier destination shop for all things SURF! In 1984 they began construction on what is now Surf Ride. The building was originally split into 3 different business with a restaurant on the side. As business improved and the need for more space was fulfilled by tearing down walls and expanding the surf department. Business was booming for surf and after 13 years they decided it was time to open an second location. In 1997 the Solan Beach location was opened up. The 7,500 sqf store was custom built from the ground up to house the largest surfboard selection in California. By 2005 the brothers had both had enough of the daily grind and decided to retire and let the next generation take over the business. Dustin and Josh Bernard stepped in to let their dad and uncle chase the dream of sailing the South Pacific and surfing perfect waves in warm water. Today, Dustin is actively shaping surfboards for Surf Ride under the SR/MFG label and Josh is the active CEO of Surf Ride. Surf Ride Boardshops are truly one of the last surviving core family owned surf shops in AMERICA. Surf Ride specializes in having the best boards, wetsuits, and clothing that the surf industry has to offer. They also have an amazing fleet of rental boards both foam boards and custom hand shaped epoxy boards. During the summer Surf Ride Surf Camp is the best place for kids to learn how to surf!
