During the period of 1989 to 1999, John P. O’Connell introduced Cut Flower Supply Channels from Columbia and Ecuador to the Western United States Mass Market. In 1992, John P. O’Connell formed and headed up a Mexican Maquiladora Company, with operations in Tecate, Mexico under the United States/Mexico NAFTA Accord. The Tecate based Maquiladora imported cut flowers from Central and South America in to Mexico under bond for processing, finishing and shipment to the United States markets. From 1992 to 1997, John P. O’Connell served on the Board of Directors of the Southern California Fresh Produce and Floral Council, a Southern California based trade Association. In 1996 to 1997, he served as President of the Association. In 1997 to 1998, John P. O’Connell chaired a Political Action Committee to oppose and defeat Federal Legislation designed to impose an industry surcharge on all cut flower products imported and sold in the United States. Besides the practice of Administrative law relevant to John P. O’Connell’s business and development projects, John P. O’Connell has represented other investment and business groups through the administrative law process of TUPS, CUPS, administration hearings and appeals. From 1999-2005, John P. O’Connell acted as in-house counsel and principal in various commercial projects including real estate development and construction in Orange County, Riverside County, Kern County, San Diego County and Mexico. Other business projects during this period include development of an Automotive Center and Retail Operations throughout Southern California. In 2005, John P. O’Connell went back into private law practice with the opening of offices in South Orange County and Temecula. John P. O’Connell’s practice today is a business law practice with emphasis on Business and Real Estate litigation, Business and Real Estate transactions, Bankruptcy, Tax, and Administrative law. John P. Cal’s - Custom Built Reels will celebrating our 38th year in the fishing tackle industry. We would like to dedicate this milestone year to the late Ray Lemme “The Reelman”. We would also like to thank all our dedicated customers for their loyal support over the past 37+ years. There are lots of great fishing reels out there on the market… What we specialize in is this: “Making the reels perform the way that each fisherman wants their reels to work.” Special requests by our customers is what we specialize in. Call us and see if we have the capability to fulfill your request. WE NO LONGER HAVE THE ABILITY TO CONVERT YOUR REEL TO 2-SPEED ... Last conversion was done in 2020. We no longer have any parts to do this anymore. It had just become too expensive to make the parts & by the time we were done doing so it would have been cheaper to just buy a new 2-speed reel. In addition to our Cal’s tan reel grease, we now offer a purple grease that works well for the anglers fishing in colder climates or light duty reels. We are proud to announce that at least 11 saltwater, freshwater and flyfishing reel manufacturers are currently using our grease in the manufacturing of their reels. 2 of those major manufacturers that use our grease for all of their reels are Accurate & Okuma. feel free yto go to grease page to find links to purchase grease.
