Taeho Kwon attended East Carolina University and majored in Commercial Arts, studying Interior Design. His goal was to construct his own designs instead of hiring other builders. To achieve this, he applied for jobs outside of the field and started working on fine carpentry. He also tried to learned everything he could from framing to exteriors, anything that would improve his skills to build his designs. After learning and practicing for 10 years, he decided to take a step further and extend his understanding of joinery. He then traveled to Korea and attended The School of Traditional Korean Architecture, earning a Certificate of Maintenance and Restoration for Korean traditional buildings. He learned to make Buddhist Temples and traditional furniture. Since then, he has spent numerous years gaining experience on the restoration and new construction of traditional Korean houses, as well as temple buildings. He focused on temples because he wanted to improve his knowledge of joinery and the secrets behind making it last for thousands of years. In a temple or a King's Palace building, there are about three times more types of joints involved than in fine furniture building. His plan has been to utilize this advanced joinery in his own furniture design, which is represented in his sitting bench/coffee table and the entry table creation. [read more]

Cafe Rio Fresh Modern Mexican
The year was 1997. The place, a little town in southern Utah called St. George. A lovely couple named Steve and Patricia Stanley started a restaurant called Cafe Rio Mexican Grill. Cafe Rio served authentic dishes derived from inspired recipes and traditional cooking of Northern Mexico’s Rio Grande region, Southern Texas, and New Mexico. Central to every bite was the belief that every ingredient must be fresh and made fresh to order. And you know what? People loved it. They couldn’t get enough of it. So much so, that one restaurant became six. In 2004, these six little restaurants caught the attention of a fine gentleman named Bob Nilsen. He purchased Cafe Rio from the Stanleys with the idea of spreading the love of making this fresh Mexican food to everyone in and around Utah and beyond. He made sure to keep the mantra of “fresh food, made fresh” at the very core of the brand. No freezers. No microwaves. Nothing premade. Mr. Nilsen has since moved on and a new team of quality-obsessed leaders have taken the wheel. To this day, our staff still begins each day, bright and early, hand-squeezing limes, hand-scooping avocados, chopping fresh vegetables, simmering sauces, and preparing the chef-inspired recipes our fans have come to love. DR. Drew Nystrom, DAOM, L.Ac. CMT I was introduced to massage at a young age but it wasn't until the age of 21 that I enrolled in a year long massage program. I graduated with over 1000 hrs of massage training and with Honors from Maric College (now Kaplan) acquiring a Holistic Health Practitioners Degree. A few years later, after working in the massage field, I knew there was more that I needed to learn. While researching possible schools to further my knowledge I came across Emperors College of Traditional Oriental Medicine. I found my calling. Three years into the four year program, I became severely ill and anything that I ate would go right through me. I lost 30 pounds in a month. A Colonoscopy and Small Intestine Barium Xray revealed major inflammation and ulceration of my Digestive tract. I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease, an Inflammatory Bowel Disease that can involve the entire digestive tract. The doctors prescribed serious medication that stopped the leak (pun intended) and told me to stay away from vegetables and fruits (basically anything healthy). This didn't sit well with me. I understood why those foods would and could make my situation worse at that time but to forgo the life giving nutrients within said foods would surely lead to worsening of this condition. Indebted to all my doctors and western medicine for saving my life; I knew there was a better way to manage and treat my condition in the long run. My time at Emperors allowed me to work with some of the greatest doctors alive today and some that have since passed on from this world. I was also able to work within the LA Community at the schools onsite community clinic and at UCLA, Arthur Ashe Medical Center. Four incredible years later I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Emperors College in 2011 with my Masters in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. In 2016 I finished the Doctoral Program at Emperors College. This program catapulted my understanding of the field of Chinese Medicine as well as western medical sciences. It also put me in contact with some more brilliant minds in the field. [read more]
