Bio - Vera tinoco I started dancing at six years old studying Ballet, Jazz and Contemporary dance. My love for dancing started with dancing at home on my father’s feet. My life goal was to become a MD, but a turn of events guided me to Chemistry. After graduating in Chemistry and earning a PhD in Biochemistry, I travelled the world for scientific conference, while still doing dance performances throughout Europe and Russia. After working many hours in the lab, to blow some steam off I would spend nights at the dance studio. I left Italy in 2008 to move to San Diego to work at UCSD as Biochemist. Although I spend a lot of time studying and working, I also couldn’t let go of my passion for dancing. After integrating into my community, I fell in love with Latin music and dance. After doing experiments in the lab during the day, I spent the nights watching people dance. It took me months to get the courage to go out on the dance floor, but once I did, I was hooked. Throughout the years, I took many lessons and courses and ended up dancing with some of the great dancers of our time. In 2010, I started teaching some classes for fun to share my passion for Latin dance. It was incredible to see how many people shared my excitement and enjoyed my way to teach. After teaching classes for a few years, I had the thought, could I own my own dance company? During one of my classes, I had the luck to meet the man that I would eventually marry and have two wonderful children with. After spending 17 years in different labs all over the world doing research, I choose to have a family and raise my children. At that point I left my science career and with the incredible support of my husband, I made my dream of owning a dance company come true, taking my part-time hobby into a full-time business. That decision allowed me to the flexibility to live life on my own terms. In 2013, I moved my company to North County to build a community for local dancers, by having regular dance classes and dance social events that regularly bring around 150 people to each event. However, some readers may not be aware that our long-term plan is to produce different models of cars, including affordable family cars. This is because the primary purpose of Tesla (and the reason I invested in the company) is to help advance the transition from an economy based on the extraction and combustion of hydrocarbon fuels to a solar electric economy. I believe this is the main solution for sustainable development, though not the only one. To achieve this goal, it is crucial to produce electric vehicles without compromise. The purpose of the Tesla Roadster is to directly face and defeat gasoline-powered sports cars like those from Porsche or Ferrari. Moreover, on top of that, its energy efficiency is twice that of the Prius. Nevertheless, some people still ask what good this does for the world. Do we really need another high-performance sports car? Can it really have an impact on the global carbon emissions problem? Well, the answer is no, not much. But that's not the point, unless you understand the secret master plan mentioned at the beginning of this article. Almost all new technologies initially have a high unit cost and will gradually be improved over time, and this is also true for electric vehicles. Tesla's strategy is to enter the high-end market, where consumers are willing to pay a higher price. Then, with the launch of each subsequent model, we aim to move towards a larger market as quickly as possible with greater production volume and lower prices. I can say that our second model will be a four-door sports family car, priced at around half of the Tesla Roadster's price ($89,000), while sacrificing not too many other features. And the price of the third model will be even more affordable. As a rapidly growing technology company, all of our free cash flow is invested in research and development to reduce costs and bring subsequent products to market as soon as possible.
