Temecula Valley Soccer Association
Temecula Valley Soccer Association is rich in the history of soccer in Temecula as well as the history of soccer in Southern California. Born in or around 1985, TVSA has grown with the city and the valley and has provided a recreational league for an estimated 100,000 youth players over the past 30 years. The league was founded by Willie Marschand as a place for the youth of Temecula to play the game of soccer in a fun and safe environment. Throughout the years, TVSA continued to provide the youth of Temecula with an affordable avenue to play soccer and was officially incorporated in 1993. At this time, the City of Temecula established the Sports Council and granted TVSA official status as a recognized league. This designation was important for the growth of the league and afforded the league the ability to have lighted fields for both Fall and Spring seasons. The mission of providing affordable and safe soccer for the youth of Temecula has been a pillar of the organization since its inception. It is that core value to has made TVSA one of the more successful and recognized recreational leagues in Cal South and District 5. TVSA has been named League of the Year, League of Excellence and many other distinctions. It started as an all volunteer organization and it still is an all volunteer organization to this day. The spirit of volunteerism is also a cornerstone of TVSA and the organization works hard to give back to the community. TVSA have a vibrant TOPs program for the city’s youth with special needs. TVSA and its members have donated money, time and goods to local organizations and continue to do so. TVSA are looking to provide annual monetary scholarships for graduating seniors at the 3 local high schools. The current BOD and its committee members would like to recognize all of those who served this organization and its members and instilled the mission and values that we continue to strive to uphold. Surf Ride Boardshop
Surf Ride was founded in 1974 by twin brothers Bill and Richard Bernard with the original and flagship location being in Oceanside on Coast Hwy. Bill and Richard started out in a little 800 sqf adobe building on what was then called "Hill Street" in Oceanside CA. Originally a Hobie Cat dealership with a focus on the core sports of the ocean. As sailing became less popular and every time it rained in Oceanside the adobe building would leak water through the walls and the streets would flood the front door, the brothers decided it was time to build a new building. They knew that they needed one that could fulfill the dreams they had of becoming Californias premier destination shop for all things SURF! In 1984 they began construction on what is now Surf Ride. The building was originally split into 3 different business with a restaurant on the side. As business improved and the need for more space was fulfilled by tearing down walls and expanding the surf department. Business was booming for surf and after 13 years they decided it was time to open an second location. In 1997 the Solan Beach location was opened up. The 7,500 sqf store was custom built from the ground up to house the largest surfboard selection in California. By 2005 the brothers had both had enough of the daily grind and decided to retire and let the next generation take over the business. Dustin and Josh Bernard stepped in to let their dad and uncle chase the dream of sailing the South Pacific and surfing perfect waves in warm water. Today, Dustin is actively shaping surfboards for Surf Ride under the SR/MFG label and Josh is the active CEO of Surf Ride. Surf Ride Boardshops are truly one of the last surviving core family owned surf shops in AMERICA. Surf Ride specializes in having the best boards, wetsuits, and clothing that the surf industry has to offer. They also have an amazing fleet of rental boards both foam boards and custom hand shaped epoxy boards. During the summer Surf Ride Surf Camp is the best place for kids to learn how to surf! Taeho Kwon attended East Carolina University and majored in Commercial Arts, studying Interior Design. His goal was to construct his own designs instead of hiring other builders. To achieve this, he applied for jobs outside of the field and started working on fine carpentry. He also tried to learned everything he could from framing to exteriors, anything that would improve his skills to build his designs. After learning and practicing for 10 years, he decided to take a step further and extend his understanding of joinery. He then traveled to Korea and attended The School of Traditional Korean Architecture, earning a Certificate of Maintenance and Restoration for Korean traditional buildings. He learned to make Buddhist Temples and traditional furniture. Since then, he has spent numerous years gaining experience on the restoration and new construction of traditional Korean houses, as well as temple buildings. He focused on temples because he wanted to improve his knowledge of joinery and the secrets behind making it last for thousands of years. In a temple or a King's Palace building, there are about three times more types of joints involved than in fine furniture building. His plan has been to utilize this advanced joinery in his own furniture design, which is represented in his sitting bench/coffee table and the entry table creation. [read more]
