Allan Cantor opened the first Cantor’s Driving School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1976. This father of four was a History Teacher and Disciplinarian at Overbrook High School in West Philadelphia. He began teaching students how to drive part-time and on the weekends. Soon, he had taught nearly every teen in the area how to drive. Allan was the best driving instructor around. He was known for his jovial personality and relatability with his students. A stop off to grab a famous Philadelphia cheesesteak during a lesson was not out of the question – and something his students loved about him. Of course it was the 1970s and times were different then, but Cantor’s Driving School has always been about Family, Community, and Safety. As years went by, Cantor’s Driving School grew into the neighboring Philadelphia suburbs. And as his children grew, his youngest son Frank joined the family business. Learning the ins-and-outs of being a great driving instructor from his father, Frank was able to expand Cantor’s Driving School into 5 states – Pennsylvania, Florida, Nevada, Arizona, and California. Today, Frank Cantor owns and operates Cantor’s Driving School with his wife, Cheri, continuing the tradition of a family-owned and operated business. Temecula Valley Cable Car Wine Tours
In May of 2006, Mike and Debbie, the owner-operators of Temecula Valley Cable Car Wine Tours had purchased a motorized 1914 San Francisco cable car. Debbie was reluctant of the purchase because of the shape it was in, but Mike could visualize a restored cable car running through Temecula and he couldn’t wait to restore the car to its former glory! It took over two years to refurbish and fully-restore the cable car to its original conditions, but with a lot of patience, sandpaper, paint, and mechanical parts, the cable car was restored and set off to cruise through the beautiful Temecula wine country. Our San Francisco cable car is the only historical moving monument left in the United States, and even though the cable car is motorized, passengers will experience the feel and essence of San Francisco as they experience Temecula Valley wine country! My name is Gustavo Peker and I am the owner of Del Mar Watch and Clock Repair in San Clemente. A little background about me, I’m a native of Argentina where I learned watch repair and watch making since an early age shadowing my father, Jacobo, a master watch maker who founded in Buenos Aires the only watch making school of South America at the time. “My father, Jacobo, helped me so much, and taught me everything I know, and everything I have is because of him, and so my wish is to honor his memory by continuing my trade in watch making.” The watch repair business isn’t what it used to be because of disposable watches – “we change a lot more batteries these days” – but there is still a call for my skills as we still do a lot of repair work on old watches with sentimental value for their owners. We keep hundreds of watches that we use only for parts, since many watches we see are not made anymore. When we can’t find an original part or fashion something from a similar part, we can make it from scratch. Working with the tiniest of screws, some smaller than the head of a common ant, We ca repair six to eight watches a day. Our clientele it’s mostly from the San Clemente area but we also serve customers with unique time pieces from all around the country. “They know what they are doing here and they are fast – they’re old school for sure,” said Phyllis Nelson of San Clemente, a frequent customer.
