Surf Ride Boardshop
Surf Ride was founded in 1974 by twin brothers Bill and Richard Bernard with the original and flagship location being in Oceanside on Coast Hwy. Bill and Richard started out in a little 800 sqf adobe building on what was then called "Hill Street" in Oceanside CA. Originally a Hobie Cat dealership with a focus on the core sports of the ocean. As sailing became less popular and every time it rained in Oceanside the adobe building would leak water through the walls and the streets would flood the front door, the brothers decided it was time to build a new building. They knew that they needed one that could fulfill the dreams they had of becoming Californias premier destination shop for all things SURF! In 1984 they began construction on what is now Surf Ride. The building was originally split into 3 different business with a restaurant on the side. As business improved and the need for more space was fulfilled by tearing down walls and expanding the surf department. Business was booming for surf and after 13 years they decided it was time to open an second location. In 1997 the Solan Beach location was opened up. The 7,500 sqf store was custom built from the ground up to house the largest surfboard selection in California. By 2005 the brothers had both had enough of the daily grind and decided to retire and let the next generation take over the business. Dustin and Josh Bernard stepped in to let their dad and uncle chase the dream of sailing the South Pacific and surfing perfect waves in warm water. Today, Dustin is actively shaping surfboards for Surf Ride under the SR/MFG label and Josh is the active CEO of Surf Ride. Surf Ride Boardshops are truly one of the last surviving core family owned surf shops in AMERICA. Surf Ride specializes in having the best boards, wetsuits, and clothing that the surf industry has to offer. They also have an amazing fleet of rental boards both foam boards and custom hand shaped epoxy boards. During the summer Surf Ride Surf Camp is the best place for kids to learn how to surf! Welcome Our story begins when founder, Jim Carter, was an eight-year old growing up in Ohio. He would gather seeds from the maple tree outside his home and plant them in his relatives' yards. This was an early indication that Jim loved digging in the earth and watching things grow. In 1981, Jim's father introduced him to a pristine region in Southern California with views for miles of the valley below. Perhaps he reminded Jim of his love for growing things as he encouraged him to purchase 400 acres here, which would later become our award-winning vineyards in the Southern California Temecula Valley. In the mid 1990's Jim was at the movies, watching "A Walk in the Clouds." The classic vineyards that set the scene reminded Jim of his Southern California land. And the story of our Temecula winery resort and spa truly began. Jim analyzed the water, soil and climate. Finding the conditions ideal, he started digging in the earth once more. He planted and nurtured the finest grapes with his own hands and the help of a hard-working team. Expert winemakers joined the team to create the wines that would establish the Temecula winery's reputation. Becoming a vintner inspired another chapter in Jim's story: building South Coast Winery Resort & Spa. Complete with villas, a restaurant and a spa situated in the middle of 63 acres, his story continues to grow, much like the vines he first planted. As Jim tells it, "I wanted to share the complete wine country experience. Guests not only enjoy the finest wines paired with the finest foods, but they stay in a private villa right in the middle of a vineyard. We are Temecula Valley's only full-service winery-resort that gives them a glimpse of our lifestyle in one of the most beautiful places in Southern California." It's Jim Carter's unbridled spirit of adventure that has allowed his Southern California Temecula Valley winery resort to garner over 3,000 distinguished awards and medals for the grapes it's grown and wine it's produced. In June of 2016, South Coast Winery broke records with its fourth win in the California State Winery of the Year Wine Competition, and yet again for a fifth time in 2022. South Coast Winery brought home the first California State Winery of the Year award to its Southern California Temecula Valley home in 2008 and then again with a back-to-back win in 2009. Studio 4 Ceramics is a sister company to CR Studio 4, which is a production ceramic and metal Art tile studio. We've been in business for over twenty eight years. The owners, Cy & Robin Vojak both have degrees in art and love creating with clay. Our ceramic tile studio produces beautiful hand made tile during the day, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. We then transform our tile production facility into an environment perfect for creating with clay. We have 8 pottery wheels and lots of table space. Our studio has 2- 80 cubic ft. gas kilns (yes that's huge) and a smaller 18 cubic ft gas kiln. We also have a Raku kiln and two electric kilns.
