Starbucks

Our Heritage Our story begins in 1971 along the cobblestone streets of Seattle’s historic Pike Place Market. It was here where Starbucks opened its first store, offering fresh-roasted coffee beans, tea and spices from around the world for our customers to take home. Our name was inspired by the classic tale, “Moby-Dick,” evoking the seafaring tradition of the early coffee traders. Ten years later, a young New Yorker named Howard Schultz would walk through these doors and become captivated with Starbucks coffee from his first sip. After joining the company in 1982, a different cobblestone road would lead him to another discovery. It was on a trip to Milan in 1983 that Howard first experienced Italy’s coffeehouses, and he returned to Seattle inspired to bring the warmth and artistry of its coffee culture to Starbucks. By 1987, we swapped our brown aprons for green ones and embarked on our next chapter as a coffeehouse. Starbucks would soon expand to Chicago and Vancouver, Canada and then on to California, Washington, D.C. and New York. By 1996, we would cross the Pacific to open our first store in Japan, followed by Europe in 1998 and China in 1999. Over the next two decades, we would grow to welcome millions of customers each week and become a part of the fabric of tens of thousands of neighborhoods all around the world. In everything we do, we are always dedicated to Our Mission: With every cup, with every conversation, with every community - we nurture the limitless possibilities of human connection. [read more]

V1SION Jiu Jitsu (Checkmat)

Welcome to Checkmat V1SION BJJ The idea of Vision in martial arts dates back over 500 years to Japan where Jiu Jitsu originated and translates to “the gentle art”. It was said that to be successful it is critical to see the important details of things up close, such as the technique of your opponent, as well as far away, such as the approach of a challenger. As your skill set increases, your strategy increases, and that expands your vision to see much more than you had before. Jiu Jitsu traveled to Brazil in the 1900s where it was transformed into a competitive martial art and sport. Modern day Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is one of the fastest rowing sports in the United States due to the increasing discussion in pop culture of the many benefits of BJJ on overall well-being. [read more]

The Goodfor Company Plumbing and Water Filtration

A Mom on a Quest to Eliminate Chemicals Hi, I’m Jane Emma. A few years ago, when I was pregnant for the first time, I started reading everything about wellness for my baby and family. In new-mom mode, I learned the dangers of toxic water, and I became obsessed with the benefits of keeping my water clean. The more I learned, the more passionate I got about sharing the truth about home water supplies. From showers to laundry to washing food... the necessity to ensure my water was chemical-free was a no-brainer for my family. That’s why I started The Goodfor Company — I’m on a mission to help families on their wellness journeys — to provide easy solutions to everyday problems and to be sure no family has to live with dirty water.
