Our History It’s hard to imagine, but when we opened Texas Lil’s back in January of 1987, there was just one street light and McDonald’s had not even been built! Temecula was often called Rancho California because we were not even a city but just an unincorporated area of Riverside County without a police department. Our little hometown events like the Tractor Race, Balloon & Wine Festival, Rod Run & Quilt Show, and others have grown into major tourist attractions. Although we have seen tremendous growth, the wonderful things that originally drew us to the Temecula Valley remain. Beautiful surroundings, great weather, terrific educational opportunities, and easy access to anywhere else we want to visit. Texas Lil’s is and remains a family-owned and operated business. The restaurant is our business, our hobby, and our passion. It is part of the fabric of the Temecula community and we are thankful to be part of this history as well as the exciting future. Our salad dressings, sauces, and side dishes are all made in-house. Our Texas 2-Step Bar-B-Q method is the perfect way to create the most tender, flavor-filled ribs you will ever try. Our staff works hard to accommodate each guest's needs in a timely manner. Great food does require time to prepare – but it is absolutely worth it! If you are not happy, please let us know and we will try hard to fix the situation. Occasionally we can make a mistake, and when we do, we appreciate the opportunity to correct it. 1909 Temecula, founded in September 2014, is a tribute to the Machado building, the location where the restaurant and bar now lives. Our name, 1909, comes from the year our building was re-built after burning down in 1908. Well before the 1909 burger was created, our building was home to a trading post, livery, auto shop, church and most notably a bar. During the 60's & 70's, the Long Branch Saloon was known as the roughest place in town to get a drink. Locals often stop in and tell stories of brawls and shootings. In fact, several bullet holes still remain in the ceiling. Today, the building serves as an ideal spot for unique food, handcrafted cocktails and craft beer. 1909 has an industrial appearance that is still inviting and fun. Temecula Valley Soccer Association
Temecula Valley Soccer Association is rich in the history of soccer in Temecula as well as the history of soccer in Southern California. Born in or around 1985, TVSA has grown with the city and the valley and has provided a recreational league for an estimated 100,000 youth players over the past 30 years. The league was founded by Willie Marschand as a place for the youth of Temecula to play the game of soccer in a fun and safe environment. Throughout the years, TVSA continued to provide the youth of Temecula with an affordable avenue to play soccer and was officially incorporated in 1993. At this time, the City of Temecula established the Sports Council and granted TVSA official status as a recognized league. This designation was important for the growth of the league and afforded the league the ability to have lighted fields for both Fall and Spring seasons. The mission of providing affordable and safe soccer for the youth of Temecula has been a pillar of the organization since its inception. It is that core value to has made TVSA one of the more successful and recognized recreational leagues in Cal South and District 5. TVSA has been named League of the Year, League of Excellence and many other distinctions. It started as an all volunteer organization and it still is an all volunteer organization to this day. The spirit of volunteerism is also a cornerstone of TVSA and the organization works hard to give back to the community. TVSA have a vibrant TOPs program for the city’s youth with special needs. TVSA and its members have donated money, time and goods to local organizations and continue to do so. TVSA are looking to provide annual monetary scholarships for graduating seniors at the 3 local high schools. The current BOD and its committee members would like to recognize all of those who served this organization and its members and instilled the mission and values that we continue to strive to uphold. A young Italian immigrant, left Italy in search of opportunity. He not only found opportunity, he found love, success and his forever future... Charity, was born in Rhode Island to her mother Cassandra and father Lorenzo Comella, a first generation American Italian from Rhode Island. Charity grew up in Temecula, moving here in 1981. In 2000, an Italian immigrant, Alessandro "Alex" Prestifilippo moved to Temecula after being in the states (Orange County, CA) for 4 years. Alex opened his first restaurant in America in 1999. That restaurant is Gourmet Italia, a world renowned restaurant in Temecula. Alex and Charity met at Gourmet Italia in 2001 and fell in love immediately. They married February 2002. Alex's daughter, Mimi would be excited to hear that her brother, Luca would be born to her Papa` and new "bonus" mom in November that year. Her second brother, Logan, would be born July, 2005! A year after Logan was born, Spuntino was born! The concept was inspired by a place in Providence, Rhode Island called Venda Ravioli! When Spuntino opened, it was a deli, grocery, pizzeria... in that order. As the years past, the desire of the customers changed to PIZZERIA, DELI, BAR! We serve the finest quality imported Italian products, recipes and menu! Spuntino brought the first real wood burning Italian Pizza Oven to the Temecula Valley. In 2013 The Bar Next Door was introduced! Charity, Alex's wife, has been very involved in opening and running several of the family businesses. She is now the founder and president of her non-profit, Charity for Charity. Mimi, Alex's daughter, manages Poggio Leano Beach Resort in Donnalucata, Sicily. Luca and Logan, the Prestifilippo sons, are going to college. Luca is a business student at Chapman University. Logan has aspirations of learning the wine industry.
